We have to give thanks to everyone who donated and participated in the 2009 Hungry Hokies Fast-a-thon. This year we were able to raise about $4,500!! This is a record amount in comparison to years past. The money will all be donated towards the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry. We hope that your single day of fasting helped you to feel what our very own neighbors feel like on a daily basis. Please keep the Hungry Hokies in mind for next year – we hope to make an even larger impact!!
The Food Pantry receives 1,322 visitors each month, all of whom are Blacksburg residents. Of the 1,322, there are 523 children, and 3 homeless people. Six new families joined in October 2009, in addition to the 471 families the pantry already feeds. Since August of 2008, the Blacksburg pantry has received 280 new members, or 5 new members a week.
